Rainy Day Activities
" Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the Autumn tree. - Emily Bronte
With Autumn, there comes an unexplainable desire to go adventuring in unexpected destinations and cuddle up near firesides, so we got inspired to embrace the cool, crispness of fall and compile a small list of activities that cost us nothing and keep us far away from whiling away too many hours on our phones.
One of the best ways to kick off the rainy season is to set a kettle of tea on the stove, put some records or symphony music on, and curl up with a good book. Here are some of our favorite Autumn reads and in case you think you don't like to read, these one's might just change your mind!
- Sense & Sensibility and Pride & Prejudice
- Little Woman and Anne of Green Gables
- My Lucky Life In and Out of Showbiz: A Memoir and Greater than Gold
- House of Love, Basket of Flowers, and The Hidden Hand
Many of these books are also available in audio and a few of them are were also made into movies plus, Pride & Prejudice has the BEST soundtrack.
Rainy days are also a perfect time to finally get to some of those things that you've been meaning to do, but haven't felt like you've had the right opportunity to acctuly get too. Take an hour or so to start learning an instrument or a foreign language. We love these little books here, here, here, here, and here and though they certainly are not comparable to attending a class, they are great for giving you a head start or brushing up on what you may have forgotten. We have also found it rather surprising how much faster you will pick up on other languages if you watch a movie or musical you are really familiar with in one of the of the foriegn tongues you are studying and it also gives you a refreshing perspective of the film you have come to know so well or, maybe even too well :)
One of the ways we like to utilize the fall weather is to go through all the tickets, pressed flowers, and birthday cards we have collected over the years and put them in an album alongside our photographs and Pinterest printouts. If your looking for an album, Smash-books are perfect for putting random mementos you have gathered in a very effortless, no-fuss way or if your looking for something a bit more traditional and classic, Project Life is the perfect fit, plus ther's no gluing requiered in this one :)
Lastly, who doesn't like to take some time to sketch, paint, and practice some calligraphy? We certainly do. Fortunately, it's really easy to get inspired in weather as lovely as this, but incase you find yourself feeling less then creative, we find it extremely helpful to browse through art on Pintrest and look through old artwork, it is surprising how many things you will come up with!
Let us know in the comments below what you lovlies are doing indoors this rainy season!
